Wojciech Brzozowski wins the ERGO Hestia European Championships

POL 10 is one step closer to claiming the title after winning in Sopot.
Today there was not enough wind to race and although the race committee called the sailors out on the water the race was abandoned due to unsatisfactory conditions.

On Wednesday, after 11 races, it was Wojciech who was first followed by the defending champion Michał Polanowski and Paweł Tarnowski and this was the top three of the regatta. The first and only lady in the fleet – Maja Dziarnowska was 10th overall.

After concealing the win Wojciech admitted that this wasn’t the easiest of regattas.

“I’m happy but exhausted” - he said. “The conditions were very demanding. Last week I was in Sylt, which is known for tough conditions. Sopot this year was tougher. Storm wind speeds a difficult wave and well prepared competition. That is why this event was so challenging.
Today the wind died just after we started to race, that is why yesterdays’ races were decisive. In races 10 and 11 I made all the right choices and manged to win them both.

I think that tactics and a bit of luck is most important in racing. Speed and equipment is important, but it is more important to know how to be in the right place at the right time. You need to know where to start. Paweł Tarnowski, who sails the Olympic RS:X is a good example. He is a very good competitor and showed off his tactical skills, like a true sailor. Maja Dziarnowska also presented herself well. She is a top sailor and was able to sail in conditions that many men were not able to compete in.”
